MMGM + Mega Giveaway: A Tale Dark & Grimm

To find out more about Marvelous Middle Grade Monday, click here.

This week, along with a Marvelous Middle Grade Monday recommendation, I have piles of books and arcs to give away! See below for more details, but first, let's take a look at:

TitleA Tale Dark & Grimm
Author: Adam Gidwitz (link)
Genre:  Fantasy (Fairy Tale)

Pub Date: October 2010

Synopsis: In a new twist on an old tale, Hansel and Gretel walk out of their own story and into eight other classic Grimm-inspired tales. As readers follow the siblings through a forest brimming with menacing foes, they learn the true story behind (and beyond) the bread crumbs, edible houses, and outwitted witches. Fairy tales have never been more irreverent or subversive as Hansel and Gretel learn to take charge of their destinies and become the clever architects of their own happily ever after.

First Line:  Once upon a time, fairy tales were awesome.

Quite a few comments from my Coraline post reminded me that not everyone likes the macabre. But I can't get enough of it lately! Which is why I picked up A Tale Dark & Grimm

If you've read any of the original Grimm fairy tales, you're familiar with the unsanitized fates some of our cherished heroes face. In most cases, there's a whole lotta gore, untimely death, and generally creepy times. Growitz pulls from that tradition in his debut book, which explores some of the biggest fears children have, and how they ultimately take control of those situations. There's a strong narrator voice that weaves in and out of the tales, talking directly to the reader. Children familiar with the Hansel and Gretel tale will love the new adventures these siblings take on... as long as they're not squeamish.

**And Now, I Give Away Piles of Books**
Enter for a chance to win A Tale Dark and Grimm, along with an arc of the second book in the series, In a Glass Grimmly. And why the heck not, another arc of one of my favorite MMGM features this year, Malcolm at Midnight (Sept 2012).

And since I'm clearing my bookshelves, I also have three YA arcs that I hope everyone picks up when they come out - Skinny, Prodigy, and Summer and Bird.

And because there's nothing more lovely than sharing middle grade books, I have paperback copies of three 2012 MMGM picks. The hilarious How Lamar's Bad Prank Won Him a Bubba-Sized Trophy, the spunkiest fairy tale around - My Very Unfairy Tale Life, and one of my all-time favorite MG books - Waiting for Normal.

This may sound nuts, but I can't wait to stand in line at the post office so I can ship off these lovely reads to three fabulous readers. Just comment below to enter, and tweet a link to this post and/or follow me on Twitter for another entry (let me know in your comment!). Feel free to add a link to your blog so I can come over and say hey! You can also comment on any other post this week for additional entries - up until Sunday, 8/19.

Happy Monday, pals!
