Camp Nano, Because Why Not?

I've never braved the 50K November challenge they call NaNoWriMo, but my pal Kim rallied some NYC writers to try out its lighter, summerier counterpart, Camp Nano. The rules are more flexible in Camp Nano, where writers set their own word count goals instead of going for the 50K loopity loop gold medal.

And moi? I'm trying for 25k words this month, because why not? I'm currently on submission (gasp!), and can really use the distraction. You can find me camping out here.

How about you? Any fancy Nano winners out there?

In unrelated but awesome news - my pal Ghenet is one of ten writers to start up a new YA site -- check out the YA Buccaneers. Word count, a'hoy!

And for unrelated sad news - today is the last day of Google Reader. Thanks for all the bloggy memories!

  1. Yay camp NaNo! You are going to rock those words this month.

And THANK YOU for spreading the word about YA Buccaneers! Should be a fun little adventure! :)

  2. Good luck with Camp Nano! I could never get past 25K. I also had good memories of Google Reader but I'm liking Feedly. Happy writing!

  3. I can't imagine ever doing NaNoWriMo, but Camp Nano sounds much more my speed. 25 K sounds like an excellent goal. I am trying to finish a manuscript this summer. Hmm. Sounds like I'm trying to argue myself into signing up!

Good luck with your goal, and with your submission. (Fingers crossed for you!)

    1. Let me know if you sign up - we can root each other on. Crossing my fingers about all of the above, too :)

  4. I completed the NaNoWriMo challenge last November, and it was pretty wild. I was up really late into the night writing to keep up with the word count.

I didn't know that Camp Nano allows you set your own word count goals. Maybe I'll look into that. I have a busy month ahead for me, but I'd like to finish up my WIP.

And yes, I'm going to the conference! This is my first time too!
We should chat offline about this.

  5. I've never done NaNoWriMo, but one of my CPs is doing Camp Nano. I might consider it, since I need to finish a MG novel currently stuck at 15K. Good luck with your own goal. I'm sure you'll make it.

    1. Oh, and thanks for your comment on my blog. I realized you and I must have both been at the NJ SCBWI conference in 2011. Sorry we didn't connect back then!

I signed up too with a goal of 30K words.
